Acupuncture / East Asian Medicine

The flow of Qi

East Asian Medicine is built on the understanding that health depends on the flow of Qi (pronounced “chee”), the vital energy of the body. Qi originates in the organs and travels through channels called meridians. Where those channels surface near the skin are the acupuncture points. Treating specific points sends a healing signal back to the organs and systems they connect to.

The Balance Method

Dr. Christy trained with Dr. Richard (Teh-Fu) Tan in the Balance Method of acupuncture. The Balance Method uses five systems of meridian relationships to choose which channels to treat. Each affected meridian is paired with balancing meridians based on organ, yin or yang quality, anatomical location, and the Chinese clock. This systematic approach often produces fast, noticeable changes in pain and function.

“Healing isn’t about forcing the body to change—it’s about removing the barriers that prevent normal function from returning.”

Chinese herbal medicine

Herbal medicine accounts for the majority of treatment in East Asian Medicine, with written prescriptions dating back more than two thousand years. Each formula is custom-blended for the individual and can be prescribed as granules, dried herbs for tea, pills, or extracts.

Working alongside your other care

Acupuncture pairs well with Fascial Counterstrain and naturopathic / functional medicine. It is often used for pain, recovery, stress and sleep, digestive concerns, and nervous system regulation.
